   What do we need?

  • You must have a plot of land at least 15 ft by 15 ft and an adequate water supply.

  • Neighbors within walking distance may each have their own smaller plots (ask for details).

  • There must be at least one person from that group that will be in charge of overseeing the project from the beginning of the season to the end.

  • There needs to be at least 5 families wishing to garden and help.

  • What assistance can we expect from PPUG?
    • On-site biweekly visitations, consultation and planning sessions will be scheduled from early spring until early fall.

    • Each group will receive the DVD, “A Guide to Growing Vegetables in the Pikes Peak Region”. This step-by-step video will lead the gardener through the seasons. Other educational materials and e-mail quick response to your questions will be provided.

    • Visits to local community gardens, successful backyard gardens and/or farms will be scheduled.

    • End of the year “Potluck Harvest Feast” will be organized and may include other community garden groups.

    • All participating groups will get a DVD documenting their own season long gardening journey.

    • Tips and suggestions on soil preparation, raised beds, season extending methods, organic pest control, composting and vegetable varieties that thrive in the Pikes Peak area will be shared.

    • Additional class offerings on how to prepare delicious meals from your harvest are available for a small fee. These classes will be taught by Marilyn Hannan, consumer and family expert and high school teacher. Please contact us for more specific details.
  • What will it cost?
    • Each group that is selected will be asked to donate $350 to Solidarity of Hope.

    • Grants may be available for qualifying groups, please ask.

    •  This nominal fee will help cover our costs and allow us to continue to expand this worth-while project.

    • All groups will supply their own gardening supplies, seeds and plants.
